Person admits sex offences against boys at summer camp
A person who spiked treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual offences against two children both nine and ten years old.
The defendant was detained after eight children and a grown-up became sick at the facility in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.
However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.
The accused was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he ran.
Ruben played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She said the defendant had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his family member had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC stated items including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his stepchild alerted the police about his concerns.
She explained the defendant proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she added.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the children were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member notified the law enforcement again.
She stated the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
